Weekly Update #9: Recording Equipment Acquired

February 23-March 1, 2025

Very slow week this week, I was busy getting my recording stuff set up. Just a little bit of Final Profit early in the week and it was mostly grinding, so the recap is shorter than usual for a weekly post.

Game Acquisitions

Another light week, just four games. And they were all free! That’s five weeks in a row now with no game purchases, which might be a record! Itch.io is selling the California Fire Relief Bundle with 187 games for $10 though, so I suspect the streak is about to be broken. I don’t really know anything about these games here except that Indiegala gave away Deep Despair 2 a while ago, so now I have two games in the series to get through free of charge.

Game Recaps

Back to a smaller week for game time. It was all spent on grinding money to get to the end of Final Profit. My friend and I didn’t get to Tales of Phantasia this week, we were busy with other stuff.

After doing all the other side stuff last week, the only things left on my to-do list are to purchase the Bureau headquarters for one billion coin and complete the main story. Since raising money is very repetitive in this game, there wasn’t much exciting footage to show. I did get a commodity side quest for selling 1,000 permits though! I thought I had finished those up a while ago.

Doubled price for the most expensive item in the game? Don’t mind if I do. With that out of the way, I spent several more hours grinding for a billion. I did figure out the stock market though which helps. You can pay someone to manipulate the stocks up and down as you see fit which made it much more viable as a strategy, so it was added into my repertoire. The general routine is selling items to Tinto the dragon until either level 99 or I run out of a commodity. When a commodity runs out, I would run the shop while I gathered the materials until I had enough, then headed back to the dragon. When I hit level 99, I’ll head back to the Flow Pix and advance time until my levels run out. If my upkeep was too high or my stocks hit their desired price, I would head to the Capital to make the changes I need to make and then head back. Rinse and repeat. Probably not the best use of my limited time, but that’s what I get for going for 100%.

TV/Movie Recaps

Here is everything I watched this week:

·       Cowboy Bebop Episodes 23-26 (completed)

·       Family Guy Season 23 Episode 2 (all caught up, show ongoing)

·       Snowpiercer Season 1 Episodes 1-7 (still watching, show ended)

·       Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Episodes 7-8 (completed)

·       American Dad Season 21 Episode 18 (all caught up, show ongoing)

·       The Fifth Element

Hell of a week this week. Cowboy Bebop was a fantastic anime with a bittersweet ending. Scott Pilgrim was also a fantastic anime, but much more light-hearted and funny. I watched the Snowpiercer movie a few years ago and really liked it. I was ecstatic to find out it was further adapted into a TV show which recently wrapped up its fourth and final season. I’m really liking it so far. The Fifth Element was a very quirky sci-film from the 90s that also managed to tell a dark story. Bruce Willis was basically playing John McClane again, but in the future. Not that I mind that, he was good in the role.

Conclusion/Upcoming

Man, I’m really kicking the can down the road on beating this Final Profit game, huh? I keep saying I’ll beat it and then something comes up and I don’t get around to it. I’ve actually had my review written out on my last two posts but then have to move it to the following post since I haven’t beaten it yet. I’ll be up front and say that I’m going to be spending a good chunk of time today dialing in settings for my new microphones. Depending on how long that takes, I should finally be able to get another session in. I feel like I’m only a couple sessions away from beating this thing.

I just wrote in my monthly post that Snowpiercer will be taking up all my TV time this month, so that is obviously the plan for this week as well. Dark City is the next movie on my list, I know nothing about it. I always find it exciting when I have a movie coming up that I don’t know what it is.

On the GPU front, I’m planning another trip to Microcenter on Monday. I only have a couple more attempts at this until I’m back in the office and can’t really do that anymore. Fingers crossed! If I do end up getting it, I’ll probably switch my upcoming games around again and remove the 32-bit PhysX games I just added there. I’m sure they’ll look fine with PhysX turned off; it’s not like AMD ever supported it. After Final Profit is complete, it’s on to Lunar Axe, and then Torment: Tides of Numenera. Thanks for reading!
