Weekly Update #21: Marathon Phantasia Sesh

May 18-24, 2025

Finally caught up on all my weekly posts this one! Man, what a journey that was. I spent all of Memorial Day weekend and then some just writing and uploading videos. I suppose I could’ve just made one post and said I missed a few but I didn’t want to leave anything out! Anyway, my Game Pass trial was over by this point and I almost didn’t play anything. Fortunately my friend came over on Sunday and we had possibly the longest gaming session we’ve ever had. Woohoo!

Game Acquisitions

Another decent haul, and all back to free again! A few Reddit trades, Steam/itch.io/Epic/Prime freebies, and a couple more Steam family purchases. Deliver At All Costs was a day one freebie on Epic too which is pretty rare. I’m particularly interested in Thief 2 and Astalon from this selection.

# of Games: 14

Total Money Spent: $0

Price/Game: $0

Game Recaps

There it is, the mighty solid color pie graph has returned, and it’s a whopping six hours! That’s right, we sat down and played Tales of Phantasia for over SIX HOURS STRAIGHT. What an awesome day that was. I didn’t get any other game time in since I was writing and editing but that’s OK, I think this was more than enough. The bulk of the session was going through the Moria Mine and Cave of Searing Sands, with some light detours into Olive Village and Midgard. Check it out! These videos will be releasing back to back June 22nd-27th so it may be a little while depending on when you’re reading this.

TV/Movie Recaps

Here is everything I watched this week:

·       Family Guy Season 23 Episode 13 (all caught up, show ongoing)

·       Arcane Season 2 Episode 9 (complete)

·       Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Season 1 Episodes 1-6 (complete?)

·       Star Wars: Andor Season 2 Episodes 1-2 (still watching, show ended)

·       Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

I may not have completed any games this week but I did complete a few shows and a movie franchise. Arcane is possibly my favorite show I’ve watched in quite some time. Anyone in the mood for a stylistic animated show that’s very dark and violent should check it out. Don’t worry if you know nothing about League of Legends, I don’t know anything either and I still loved the hell out of this. Continuing on to shows based on games, I watched the full run of Ubisoft’s Captain Laserhawk where they basically took a bunch of their game properties and mashed them together. We had Rayman, Rabbids, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and Beyond Good and Evil from what I remember, and there were probably others too. It’s an animated show that absolutely did not take itself seriously. I thought it was OK, nothing too special but it had its moments. I put a question mark next to complete because there are still rumors that a season 2 is coming, but it doesn’t look likely at this point. The show has not been renewed or canceled and the last episode aired October 2023. Andor is off to a decent start for its last season. I’m not liking it as much as season 1 but it’s still a great Star Wars show. I’m curious to see how they tie it into Rogue One. I may need to watch the movie again after I finish this. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes marks the end of the Apes franchise for me. I watched the original movie and the four modern movies. I ended up skipping the other four classics and the failed 2001 reboot, I read none of them were really worth watching. I looked up the recaps just in case there was anything important I might’ve missed but I don’t think it was necessary. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie franchise. I felt for the most part that each film was slightly worse than the last but I liked all of them so I can’t complain.

Conclusion/Upcoming

And with that, my writing frenzy has (mostly) concluded. Writing five posts in a row really takes a lot out of a person, and that’s coming off the heels and editing and uploading 38 HOUR-LONG VIDEOS IN A ROW. This blogging and YouTubing thing is way more work than I was expecting. Now I need to start drafting up the May monthly post and this week’s post. The fun never stops! I can actually say what I plan on doing for the coming week since it isn’t over yet. I’ll be watching Andor all week, and will likely be finishing it this weekend. This week’s movie is a big pivot from Planet of the Apes: Dog Man! I hadn’t even heard of this movie but it’s from the same guy that made Captain Underpants which I loved as a kid. I feel like I owe it to myself to see what else he’s up to. It’s likely my friend is not coming over this week so any gaming is unlikely. After I finish up what I can get done with the blog posts, I’m gonna go back to Playnite emulator setup. This will probably take a few more weeks so gaming will be put on the backburner again. Sorry about that! At least now that I’m recording footage, you’ll still have an hour a day of watching my gameplay even when I don’t have much to write about. The June post should be going up within a couple days after this one, with the weekly arriving a day later. Thanks for reading!
