October 5-11, 2025
That’s right, I finally redeemed Game Pass and started playing games again! It’s only been like five months or so 😬 That means I’ll finally have some games to intersperse with Tales of Phantasia and it’s not just a one-game blog. That also means my emulation project is officially on hold. I was working on the Pokémon testing and made it through FireRed, Snap, Let’s Go, Eevee!, SoulSilver, and GB2 (the Japanese-exclusive card game). Not bad for just a day’s worth of testing.
Game Acquisitions
I ended up redeeming the October Humble Choice. After an abysmal offering in September, they bounced back with these games. I already had the enhanced edition of System Shock so I ended up removing it from my backlog in favor of the remake. System Shock 2 enhanced stayed in the backlog to play after this. I purchased Haven for super cheap in the Steam Autumn Sale as well, it looks fun and I’m a sucker for a good story. I also bought Fanatical’s Build Your Own Triple Pack because DOOMBLADE looks like it’s absolutely worth $1, and the other two offerings were in an RPG bundle I missed a few months ago but cheaper. The October Platinum Collection looks tempting too but I’m holding out hope the games will be in a cheaper bundle later. You may be wondering why my total money spent doesn’t match the price of the bundle I bought, and that’s because I managed to sell one of my old games keys on Reddit. I paid $3.02 for the bundle mentioned earlier, but also managed to sell Shogun Showdown for $3 to offset it. That brings my price per game down to a negligible level.
# of Games: 13
Total Money Spent: $0.02
Price/Game: $0
One last time showing this off for the foreseeable future. I decided I want to play through the whole Wild Arms series. I swapped out the original for the Alter Code: F remake. I wonder what made them decide to ditch the original combat system for the HEX-based one from 4 onwards…
Game Recaps
Two games! It’s about time. I’m so excited to finally start Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I’ve had my eye on it ever since it was announced and was happy to learn that it ended up being just as good as it looked. I’m somehow already 16 hours into it and so far I’m loving it. I’ve befriended Esquie, fought my way through the yellow harvest, and am about to head to the Stone Wave Cliffs.Tales of Phantasia continues on as well of course. We made it all the way through Odin’s Tower and it wasn’t nearly as bad as the ice cave. Just ignore my horrible attempts at the optional boss with Odin himself. I’ve got us all set up to take on the spirit Origin next time. Check out my playthroughs! There’s too many parts of Expedition 33 scheduled to list here (the opposite problem to what I’ve had so far this year) so I’ve linked to the first part as well as the playlist so you can keep up on it. I’m once again quite proud of my thumbnail work here.
TV/Movie Recaps
Here is everything I watched this week:
· Alien: Earth Season 1 Episodes 5-8 (all caught up, show ongoing)
· Futurama Season 10 Episodes 1-6 (still watching, show ongoing)
· Pitch Black
Finished up what’s currently out of Alien: Earth. I’m overall positive on it and recommend it to fans of the series. It stands on its own for people who haven’t watched the movies too. Just know that there is some gore so keep that in mind. Futurama was just more Futurama. A far cry from its heyday but still fun enough. I started the Chronicles of Riddick series as well! I’ve seen Pitch Black already but it had been a while so wanted a refresher before diving into the series as a whole. Despite being 25 years old, some of the visuals were still pretty cool, especially the eclipse scene. A lot of sci-fi last week it seems, not that I’m complaining. It’s one of my favorite genres for sure.
Conclusion/Upcoming
It’s so nice to finally be playing games again. I kept the trickle of enthusiasm going with the continued Tales playthrough but now I’m finally playing on my own time. My interest is waning on the whole recording, editing, uploading, and blogging thing though. It takes up a lot of time, and it feels weird trying to speak to nobody in particular. Maybe I’ll stick with just focusing on the game with no commentary for solo plays, we’ll see. Let me know how you feel about my blogging format too. Nobody has responded to my requests for recommendations so far which confirms that nobody is reading the blog and I’m probably just wasting my time on it.
My plan for this week is to watch the anime Blue Submarine No. 6 and start Record of Lodoss War. I came across these shows through my emulation research. Blue Submarine No. 6 got a Japan-exclusive game for the Dreamcast while Record of Lodoss War got games for both the SNES and Dreamcast. My original plan was to watch the shows right before playing their game counterparts, but my inability to do the same with Ghost in the Shell and Chronicles of Riddick recently made me realize that it’s probably not important enough to do that since they’re largely separate experiences. There are still some games in my backlog like .hack and Final Fantasy XV where the stories of the shows and games are more interweaved so I’ll stick to my plan with those. I’ll also be continuing my Chronicles of Riddick movie watch with Dark Fury and the aptly named “The Chronicles of Riddick.” I have tomorrow off work so my friend and I are hanging out for most of the day. Tales of Phantasia will definitely be played, and we should make a good amount of progress. The end is almost in sight! I’ll be continuing Expedition 33 as well, making my way through Act 1. That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
